Blinken, UAE Foreign Minister Zayed Al Nahyan Meet, Discuss Need For Ceasefire In Gaza, Release Of Israeli Hostages


United States Secretary of State, Antony J. Blinken met today with Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Jordan on the margins of the international conference on the urgent humanitarian response to Gaza.  

According the statement released by StateDepartment Spokesperson, Matthew Miller, the Secretary and Foreign Minister discussed the need to reach a ceasefire that secures the release of all hostages, enables a surge in humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza, and allows civilians to return to their neighborhoods.  

Blinken Secretary underscored that the current proposal on the table would benefit both Israelis and Palestinians and reiterated that Hamas should accept it without delay.  

The Secretary and Foreign Minister continued discussions on reconstruction, governance, and security for Gaza in a post-conflict period.

Recall that the United States recently came up a with a draft proposal that would lead to ceasefire, release of Israeli hostages, ensure humanitarian assistance, peace and rebuild of devastated Gaza. 

The draft resolution was passed at the the United Nations yesterday, with Russia abstaining. It is now left for Israel and Hamas to agree to it for implementation.

Meanwhile Blinken said Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has assured him of agreeing to the proposal while Hamas is yet to agree.
