Edo Assembly Polls: CSOs Rally Masses To Vote Competent, People’s True Representatives

Ahead of the States House of Assembly elections in Nigeria, Civil Society Organizations, CSOs are calling on electorate to elect those who are proficient in making laws that will promote economic prosperity in the Country.

This was the outcome of a press conference held Tuesday, in Benin City, Edo State Capital, where the organizers also called on political and all interest groups to engender initiatives devoid of stoking violence during the electoral process.

Marxist Kola Edokpayi, leader of the Talakawas Parliament, noted that March 11, 2023, House of Assembly Election is between the oppressed people in Edo State and those in Power that have lost grip of the people due to their monstrous anti-people policies that have rendered the masses impotent.

Edopkayi argued that Edo People cannot continue to be governed in their absence, adding that the need to have a robust assembly that can represent the interest of the people but not rubber-stamped is sacrosanct.

He said, “those who want to represent us should be people with character and vision to speak truth to power no matter whose OX is gored.”

He stated that politicians preparing to fan the ember of discord should reconsider as the election is not a declaration of war, adding that it’s an opportunity presented to the electorate to exercise their franchise.

His words: “Politicians trying to employ the services of hoodlums, thugs, and unknown armed men to disrupt the political exercise on that day must have a rethink and desist from the act”

Other activists, including Curtis Ogbebor and Abraham Oviawe, added their voces, insisting that people must vote for competent representatives.

They believe that those who will represent the people should show capacity while encouraging the electorate to build on the recent presidential election in other to stabilize the nation’s democratic ordinance.

The duo appealed to security operatives and the electoral umpire, INEC to provide a level playing field for the conduct of credible elections.

States House of Assembly election is billed for Saturday, March 11, 2023, across the Country.

In Edo State, there are 24 seats up for grab across political parties and one candidate is expected to win a mandatory provisional Constituent whilst they will represent for the next four years.
