Edo Police Arrest Four Suspects In Killing Of Alleged Thief

Benin City, Nigeria – Operatives of Edo State Police Command have arrested four persons allegedly involved in the mobbing of an alleged thief in Benin City, the state capital.

The unfortunate incident occurred at Iyanomo Community, Off Ekehuan Army Barracks, Benin City on Sunday, November 27, 2022.

The yet-to-be identified victim, accused of stealing an unregistered motorcycle was clubbed to death during a mob action that ensued.

The names of the suspects were given as Emmanuel Igube, 19, Matthew Gimba, 39,Monday Nathaniel, 30, and Gabriel Akuba, 20.

The Public Relations Officer for Edo State Police Command SP Chidi Nwabuzor disclosed this in a statement made available to Journalists via the command’s official WhatsApp page on Monday, November 28, 2022.

SP Nwabuzor said the Edo Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Dankwara frowned at the incident and condemned all cases of jungle justice in the state.

He added that the CP enjoined residents of the state to always repose confidence in the Rule of Law and law enforcement institutions.

“Four persons linked to the death of the deceased have been arrested and are assisting the Police in their investigation.

“Meanwhile, the CP has directed that the case be transferred from Evbuotubu Police Station to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Benin for further investigation”, SP Nwabuzor disclosed.
