Benin City, Nigeria – Operatives of Edo State Police Command have killed five suspected kidnappers who had perfected plans to kidnap an expatriate in Okomu Oil Plantation, Ovia North East local government area of the state on Saturday, the Police said.
According to the Police, one AK 47, one single barrel cut-to-size gun, one long barrel gun and eight live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
The command stated this in a statement e-signed by its Public Relations Officer SP Kontongs Bello, and made available to journalists in Benin City on April 30, 2022.
The statement read:
“Operatives of the Edo State Police Command intelligence rapid response squad has acted on credible information which says notorious kidnappers have perfected plans to kidnap an expatriate in Okomu Oil Plantation in Ovia North East LGA, Edo State.
“On receipt of the information, the operatives led by the commander, lntelligence Response squad swiftly swung into action and mobilized to the location.
“The suspected kidnappers on sighting the team of Operatives opened fire on them, in an ensuing gun duel, the Operatives neutralised five (5) of the suspected kidnappers while others escaped with gun shots injuries.
“Rigorous Bush combing to track other fleeing gang members for possible arrest is ongoing”. The release stated.
It however added that the state Commissioner of Police CP Abutu Yaro thanked the public for prompt information which led to the smashing of the criminal elements.
The statement reinstated the commitment of CP Abutu Yaro to the protection of lives and property in Edo state.
