Edo State Government has disclosed plans to construct two ultra-modern truck transit parks in different locations across Edo with state-of-the-art-facilities to improve public safety on the highways and reduce travel time for all road users.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Osasere M. Evbuomwan, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City, said the project is part of efforts by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration to establish the state as a transport hub and facilitate the transportation of goods for traders and organizations.
He noted that the parks, when completed, will offer economic and social facilities including motels, shopping complexes, restaurants, maintenance or mechanic workshops, fire stations, mega fuel stations, police stations, and dormitories, among others.
According to him, “Edo State serves as a transport hub with a unique position as a gateway to many other states including Ondo, Delta, and Kogi. Its strategic location to the South-West, South-South, South-East and North-Central regions of Nigeria, makes it the centre for trade, commerce, and industry, with a huge potential for the establishment of truck transit parks at different locations of the state to aid the transportation of goods for traders and organizations.
“This unique advantage also makes the state a major transit route for trucks, which are prone to parking indiscriminately along the roadways, causing a lot of damage to road surfaces and to road-shoulders.”
The Commissioner added, “To improve public safety on the highways and reduce travel time for all road users, the Edo State Government has recognised the need for proper truck transit parks and has selected two (2) locations for the development of truck transit parks within the State.
“These parks would offer economic and social facilities including motels, shopping complexes, restaurants, maintenance or mechanic workshops, fire stations, mega fuel stations, police stations, dormitories, etc.”
