Oba Of Benin Warns Against Harsh Corporal Punishment In Schools

His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin, on Tuesday warned against harsh corporal punishment in schools.

The Benin Monarch gave the warning when he played host to the family of late Pa. Augustine Emumwen and the new National Executive of Immaculate Conception College Old Boys Association World-Wide in his Palace in Benin City, Edo State capital.

Oba Ewuare condemned corporal punishment on students by teachers in its entirety, which he said can inflict bodily harm, and therefore called for better civilized corrective measures to instill discipline on students in schools.

The Omo N’Oba N’Edo urged the children of late Pa. Augustine Emumwen to imbibe the traditional, cultural values and the good virtues exhibited by their father when he was a teacher and Principal of Immaculate Conception College (ICC).

His Royal Majesty congratulated the new National Executives of ICC Old Boys Association World-Wide and assured them of the Palace fervent prayers, blessings, cooperation, and support as accorded the outgone executives, which enables them to succeed in office.

Earlier, the immediate past President of ICC Old Boys Association World-Wide introduced the children of late Pa. Augustine Emumwen and the new National Executives of ICC Old Boys Association to the Benin throne.

Speaking, the eldest son of late Pa. Augustine Emumwen children led by Rev. Fr. Dr. Victor Emumwen based in the U.S told the revered Oba of Benin that they were in the Palace to re-strengthen the cordial relationships their late father established with the Omo N’Oba N’Edo.

He solicited for Royal prayers, blessings as they dedicate the re-constructed ICC School Old Library in memory of their late father to be known as Memorial E-Library that has 60 computers and accommodates ninety-six thousand books.

The Catholic Priest, Dr. Victor Emumwen added that the period will be used to celebrate their aged mother who will be 100 years old.

On his part, the new National President of ICC Old Boys Association World-Wide, Engr. Ighodalo Edetalen informed the Oba of Benin that they were in his esteem presence to introduce themselves as the new National Executives piloting the affairs of ICC Old Boys Association World-Wide and to pledge their unalloyed loyalty and respect to the Benin throne.

Engr. Ighodalo Edetalen assured His Royal Majesty of their commitment whenever they are called upon by the Palace and thereafter solicited for the Royal cooperation and prayers bequeathed to the immediate past executives to be extended to them to succeed in office.
