Pro-Trump Attorney Lin Wood Faces Discipline From GA Bar

ATLANTA — Pro-Trump attorney L. Lin Wood faces sanctions from the State Bar of Georgia for potentially violating one or more state rules of professional conduct.

The organization that governs and licenses all practicing attorneys in the state filed a more-than-1,600-page official grievance against Wood earlier this month for incompetences and making false statements. If the investigation accompanying the grievance proves its claims, Wood faces disbarment at the most.

The grievance cites “erratic, abusive and unprofessional behavior” towards law colleagues at his law firm, support of former president Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn legitimate election votes in four states, and QAnon beliefs which falsely claim that a deep-state cabal of high-ranking government officials, including everyone from Hillary Clinton to Chief Supreme Court Justice John Roberts, participate in pedophilia and plot a government overthrow.

Wood also has suggested that Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger be thrown in jail for refusing to obey Trump’s demand that legal votes be thrown out to revere the former president’s election loss in November.

New reporting from Vice.com claims Wood in the last day doxed all of the public officials — releasing their names and personal information on the social media platform Telegram — who might vote to disbar him.

Earlier this month Georgia Raffensperger opened an inquiry to determine if Wood, who owns property in South Carolina, had in fact been living there when he voted in Georgia’s presidential election.

The State Bar of Georgia grievance was filed on Feb. 5 and alleges that the Atlanta attorney, among other things, threatened his former law associates Nicole Wade, Jonathan Grunberg and Taylor Wilson in several vulgar and anti-semitic rants described as “abusive, incoherent phone calls, voice mails, texts, and emails … in the middle of the night.”

The grievance points to Wood’s support of the bogus idea that Trump lost the presidential election because of widespread systematic fraud. He was among a team of lawyers who represented Trump in lawsuits in Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin and Georgia aiming to overturn election results that favored now-President Joe Biden.

One complaint filed in the Eastern District of New York cited in the grievance five different lawsuits Woods filed to reverse the presidential election results. The complaint said Wood violated both the Federal Rule of Civil Procedure and the New York Rule of Professional Conduct by filing the “frivolous lawsuits relating to the 2020 presidential election based on outright lies and non-existent legal theory.”

Also, the document referred to Wood’s dismissal last month from a Delaware defamation case in which Superior Court Judge Craig Karsnitz cited the Atlanta attorney’s behavior in the Georgia and Wisconsin cases.

Karsnitz called Wood’s conduct “exhibited a toxic stew of mendacity, prevarication and surprising incompetence,” and said “what has been shown in court decisions in our sister states satisfies me that it would be inappropriate and inadvisable to continue Mr. Wood’s permission to practice before this court.”
