Married people all over the world are healthier, happier, better off financially and live longer, with fewer heart attacks and other diseases.
This view was recently expressed by a professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Benin, Benin City, Kingsley Ufuoma Omoyibo, at the traditional wedding ceremony of Dr. Ochuko lduemre, which was held at Ossah-Ibeku, Umuahia, Abia State of Nigeria.
Professor Omoyibo was of the opinion, citing statistical evidence that: “unmarried people are prone to early deaths, sicknesses, diseases, financial instability and other hazards of life, while married people are far better off.”
The university don posited: “Traditional marriage is instituted by God as a foundation for the family unit on earth, a foundation that enables it to prosper. As individual families prosper, so our society prospers, and we all reap the benefits of that stability.
“Indeed, marriage provides an excellent opportunity for couples to grow in selflessness, as men service their wives and children. Marriage is more than a physical union; it is also a spiritual and emotional union. This union mirrors the one between God and His church.”
The traditional wedding which was conducted strictly according to the Igbo customary rites saw the groom, Dr. Ochuko Iduemre, who is equally of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Benin exchanging marital vows with the bride, former Miss Edith Chizoba Nwosu in the presence of family members, friends and well-wishers.
The visibly elated and excited newlywed couple, Mrs. Edith and Dr. Ochuko Iduemre, thanked and praised the Almighty God profusely, for making it possible for them to become husband and wife.
