New Zone 5 Police AIG Poised For Clean House, Suspends All Investigations

[dropcap]B[/dropcap]enin City, Nigeria – Newly reassigned Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) to Zone 5, Mr. Alkali Baba Usman has pledged to reposition the zone for efficient policing.

AIG Usman who assumed duty in Zone on Thursday, October 4, 2018 stated this during a chat with our reporter in his office at the Zone 5′ headquarters, Adesuwa road, GRA, Benin City, on Tuesday October 16, 2018.

He however promised to give details of his mission in the Zone, on a later date.

Though AIG Usman appeared to be understudying the handover note received from his predecessor, his body language revealed that of a no nonsense police officer who will not compromise public security for selfish motive.

The Nigeria Police zone 5 is located in the nation’s South-south Geo-political zone which comprises of Bayelsa, Edo and Delta states, with the zonal headquarters in Benin City, Edo State.

Checks at the Zonal headquarters revealed that AIG Usman recently read the riot act to heads of departments, tactical units and other officers during his recent maiden meeting with them.

He was said to have suspended all forms of investigation by his operatives and reminded them that they are primarily to play supervisory roles to state police commands.

Further checks revealed that some officers at the Zone are elated over the new order as the reckless disregard for official hierarchy by a particular head of unit (name withheld by us) during the immediate past AIG, was unprofessional, uncalled for and disturbing.

The said head of unit was described as AIG 2 due to his unrestricted access and the power he arrogated to himself which the former AIG allegedly knew, but did nothing about it.

According to the release endorsed by the Zonal Public Relations Officer, DSP Emeka Iheanacho and made available to journalists in Benin City on Tuesday, the new AIG Alkali Baba Usman was until his recent deployment, AIG in charge of Maritime Police Command, Lagos.

He was one time AIG, Zone 4 Command Headquarters, Makurdi, Benue State, and Federal Operations, Abuja as well as AIG, Zone 7, Command Headquarters, Abuja.

The release further explained that AIG Usman was once Commissioner of Police, Delta State and FCT, Abuja.

He is said to have studied political science at Bayero University, Kano (BUK) and Public Administration (MPA), University of Maiduguri, Borno State.

AIG Alkali Baba Usman, the release noted, is a fellow of the National Defense College (FDC) and member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).

He took over from AIG Rasheed Olatunde Akintunde redeployed to Force Headquarters, Abuja.
