Edo House Of Assembly Confirms EDSOGPADEC, SUBEB Nominees

[dropcap]E[/dropcap]do House of Assembly has confirmed the nominees for the Edo State Oil And Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC).

Those confirmed are Kennedy Osifo as Chairman, Omosede Obawonyi, Osawonyi Atu, William Dudu, Rilwanu Oshiomhole, Emmanuel Odigie and Princess Ikuoyewen Ewuare – Aimiuwu as members of the board.

The request for confirmation of the seven nominees as Chairman and members of EDSOGPADEC was contained in a letter dated September 10, 2018 and signed by Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The confirmation was however sequel to the consideration of the report submitted by the House Committee on Rules Business and Government House after screening the nominees.

According to Roland Asoro, chairman of committee on Rules business and government house, the committee after a thorough screening of the nominees found them to be educationally fit and proper to serve on the board.
In the same vein, the House also confirmed four nominees as Chairman and members of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The nominees are Dr. Joan Oviawe, as chairman, Elizabeth Ighodaro, Ekhaisomi Anthony and Stevenson Ehime as members of the board. The confirmation of the nominees followed a request by Governor Godwin Obaseki in a letter dated September 10, 2018.

The confirmed members of the SUBEB and EDSOPADEC were advised by the house to always make transparency their watchword and also ensure that they live above board.

Meanwhile, the House received four executive bills for the governor. The bills include one for a law to establish a Corporate body to be known as Edo State Signage and Out-door Advertising Agency and to confirm functions and the display of advertisements and billboards.

Others are l for a law to repeal the Institute of Continuing Education law 2007, A bill for a law to establish Edo state Insurance Commission and a bill for a law to harmonize provisions for the retirement age of staff of Polytechnic and Colleges of Education rules 2018.
