A press statement signed by the Secretary to the Benin Traditional Council, Mr. Frank Irabor in Benin on Monday and made available to Alltimepost.com, said the sitting would take place at the Benin Customary Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee building, Oba Palace, Benin City.
According to the statement, all those that have collected forms are advised to return them to enable the Committee handle their complaints. “This is to remind the general public that as stated by His Royal Majesty, the Oba of Benin, all those who are not satisfied with the outcome of their cases have a window of opportunity to appeal to the Omo N’Oba in respect of their complaints,” the statement said.
“Matters pertaining to Enogie versus Enogie and Edionwere in respect of Oguedion are to be handled by His Royal Majesty, the Oba of Benin, the statement added.
It would be recalled that Oba Ewuare inaugurated the committee in October to arbitrate in disputes between individuals and communities in the Kingdom for a tenure of 18 months.
The eight-member Committee, made up of mostly retired Justices, were inaugurated at the Oba Palace grounds, in Benin.
The Benin Monarch said, members of the Committee who were carefully selected based on their past records, are eminent and respected sons of Benin Kingdom who have proved themselves in their fields of endeavor.
Members of the committee are: Justice Samson Uwaifo (a retired Justice of the Supreme Court), Prof. Gregory Akenzua, Chief Edionwere Oliha (the Oliha of Benin), Hon.Justice Samuel Elaiho (retired Justice of Edo State High Court), Hon.Justice Joseph Olubor (retired President, Customary Court), Mr. Daniel Inneh( Formal Secretary to Oba of Benin), Chief Abel Ehiogie(Onaye Of Benin) and Surveyor James Amadin Osazuwa.
In his Royal proclamation at the inauguration, Oba Ewuare II disclosed that the present eight members of the Committee would be expanded in due course, and divided into two groups.
According to the Monarch, the Committee will arbitrate, mediate and resolve disputes among individuals and communities that voluntarily brings cases to them.
