EFCC Arrests Akpabio, Ex-Akwa Ibom Governor

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Friday, arrested the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, for interrogation over alleged massive corruption during his leadership of the state.

A commission source told Tribune Online that Akpabio was arrested on Friday afternoon and was still under interrogation at the official closing hour.

There was, however, according to the source, the possibility of the former governor being granted an administrative bail on Friday night with travel documents to be seized from him.

Akpabio, who is the Senate Minority Leader, has been under investigation by the commission following a petition alleging that he stole billions of naira while at the helms of affairs. (TRIBUNE)
