Newly deployed Commissioner of Police to Edo State, CP Monday Agbonika, assumed office today in Benin City, the State’s capital.
He takes over from CP Betty Enekpen-Isokpan Otimenyin, who served as the first female Commissioner of Police in Edo but was replaced after just 72 days in office.
Speaking to journalists after his formal assumption, CP Agbonika promised an all-inclusive policing strategy, with an emphasis on Community Safety Partnerships to enhance security across the State.
According to the CP, prior to his arrival in Edo, he had met with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, and upon his arrival in Benin City, senior officers briefed him on the security situation, assuring that, “I am here to work.”
As the 50th Commissioner of Police in the history of Edo State Police Command, CP Agbonika vowed to collaborate closely with traditional rulers, civil society organizations, the media, the Civil Defense, and other security agencies to create a safer environment for the people of Edo State.
He expressed confidence that the support of Governor Monday Okpebholo and the people of Edo would help in tackling the State’s security challenges.

“I am sure to get the support of the His excellency, the governor of Edo State and all the people in the communities of Edo State. That way am sure we will be able to tackle the major problems we have in Edo State,” he emphasized.
It would be recalled that the outgoing CP Betty Enekpen-Isokpan Otimenyin was posted to Edo State on January 25, 2025 and assumed duty on January 27, 2025 following the retirement of her predecessor, CP Umoru Peter Ozigi.
