Salman-Dogo Garba has officially assumed office as the new Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police for Zone 5, based in Benin City, Edo State of Nigeria.
He took over on March 20, 2025, succeeding AIG Arungwa Nwazue, who recently retired from the force.
The Public Relations Officer for Zone 5, SP Tijani Momoh disclosed this in a statement released to the journalists today in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
According to the release, AIG Salman-Dogo Garba, who hails from Pakata in Kwara State, began his career in the police force on May 18, 1992, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent after training at the Nigeria Police Academy Annex in Kaduna.
It stated that over the years, the AIG has served in various key departments of the force, including the Department of Operations, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Force Intelligence Department, and the Department of Finance and Administration.
It noted that Salman-Dogo Garba has held several high-ranking positions throughout his career. These include Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations for Zone 12 Police Command in Bauchi, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Operations in Anambra State, and Deputy Commissioner of Police for the CID at the Airport Police Command in Abuja.
He also served as the Commissioner of Police for General Investigations at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja and later as the Commissioner of Police for Armament in the Department of Operations at the Force Headquarters.

In 2025, AIG Garba was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police. On February 12, 2025, he was redeployed as the AIG for Zone 5, covering the police commands of Edo and Delta States.
SP Tijani Momoh further revealed that AIG Garba has attended numerous professional courses both locally and internationally, which have contributed to shaping his career and expertise in law enforcement.
As the new AIG of Zone 5, Garba has called for the cooperation of the citizens of Edo and Delta States, urging them to support the police with vital and timely information that will help combat crime and enhance security in the area.
