The Rivers State Sole Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has suspended all political appointees and office holders in the state with immediate effect.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Chief of Staff to the Administrator announced that the suspension was carried out under the authority granted to Ibas by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The directive, which affects the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the Chief of Staff, all commissioners, and chairpersons, also includes members of boards, agencies, commissions, and parastatals, as well as all special advisers, special assistants, and senior special assistants.
The statement further instructed the affected officials to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
According to the Chief of Staff to the administrator, the affected officials are to hand over to the most senior Director or Head of Administration will assume leadership in cases where no Permanent Secretary is available.
Recall Tribune Online reports that the Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, resigned from his position on Wednesday. His resignation was confirmed in a statement issued by the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas
This comes after Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the Rivers State Assembly were handed a six-month suspension by President Tinubu in a nationwide broadcast declaring a state of emergency in the state.
