…Gov Okpebholo Condoles with victim’s family

Tragedy struck on Thursday in Benin City, Edo State as a middle-aged man, Pius Etim, was allegedly struck to death by a fallen broadcast mast at a Night Praise Event planned as part of the activities marking Governor Monday Okpebholo’s 100 days in office.
Alltimepost.com gathered that the tragic incident happened at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, as the mast reportedly fell following a heavy breeze that proceeded a heavy downpour.
The man was said to be the driver of the decorator, and he was killed by the mast while allegedly trying to salvage his boss’s decorating materials.
It was also gathered that the incident disrupted the Praise Night planned as part of activities to mark Governor Monday Okpehbolo’ 100 days in Office.
A police officer at the scene of the incident, who pleaded anonymity said that the heavy breeze made the mast fall on the victim.
The officer said, “We are all gathered at the stadium waiting for the commencement of the praise night when the breeze began. Unfortunately, the mast fell and killed the man instantly. His head was shattered, and it was a gory sight.
“I gathered that he was a driver to the person who was at the stadium to decorate the venue. Most people had to leave the stadium after the rain subsided.”
Efforts to get the Spokesperson of Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu, for confirmation proved abortive as he did not take several calls to his line.
Reacting to the development, the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo expressed deep sadness over the incident, describing Etim’s death as unfortunate, sad and painful.
The governor who stated this in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Friday Situation, condoled with the family of the victim and prayed God to the give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
He said: “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a young man, Pius Etim, during the intense rainfall and collapse of a mast at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.”
“On behalf of the people of Edo State, I offer my deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Pius Etim. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this period of grief”.
