NSF: Edo Sports Commission Chairman Visits Event Centers, Expresses Satisfaction

As the South South zonal elimination (Ball games qualifiers) for the National Sports Festival, hots up in Benin, the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission (ESSC), Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has expressed satisfaction with the organization and smooth proceedings so far just as he commended team Edo athletes’ performances.

The Sports Commission boss gave the commendation when he visited athletes across all the events centers in Benin.

He embarked on a tour of all the venues, including Wire Road, St. Maria Goretti Girls’ College, Adolor College, and the Crescent Sports Club on Iriri Road.

He expressed satisfaction with Team Edo athletes’ performance so far as they continue to participate in the ongoing South-South zonal Elimination Games across various venues in Benin City, heaping praise on them for their dedication and sportsmanship.

“It is quite encouraging to see our athletes giving their best and showcasing their skills on this significant platform,” he said.

“You are not just representing Edo State; you are ambassadors of the South-South region. Your efforts today will pave the way for future successes,” he added.

Hon. Enabulele expressed optimism about the chances of team Edo qualifying in most of the games to represent the zone in Ogun Games.

Enebulele, noted the importance of the elimination games as a steppingstone to the National Sports Festival.

Meanwhile, the Edo Football team has qualified for the National Sports Festival proper.

The Coach Osayomore Aghahowa led Football team (Male) were forced to a 1-1 by Team Delta in their last game on Wednesday.

Edo topped with 7 points after thrashing Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom 3-0,3-1 on day one.

Delta on the other hand came second with 5 points. Both teams are qualified to represent the South South at the Ogun Games.

At Ihogbe College venue for Beach Volleyball, Edo state Beach volleyball team defeated Akwa Ibom 2:0 to qualify for the gateway games.

Rivers also won their Delta state opponents to clinch the remaining ticket for the female beach volleyball event.

In Cricket, Edo State Female defeated Akwa Ibom State Female by 8 wickets.

In the first innings, Akwa Ibom scored 61 runs for all wickets out after 14.3 overs, as Edo State in quick succession achieved the tarhe of 62 runs after 13.2, with loss of 2 wickets in the second innings.

The player of the Match, Favour Esiegbe, bowled 3 wickets and batted 22 runs.

Meanwhile, Delta State Female will be up against Edo State Female on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 10:am
