FG Urged To Immortalise Taiwo Akinkunmi, National Flag Designer

The Federal Government has been urged to immortalise the designer of Nigeria’s national flag, the late Pa Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi.

The appeal was made by the family of the deceased in a press release issued on Saturday by Akinwumi Akinkunmi, an engineer and son of Pa Akinkunmi.

The family expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for not reneging on its promise and for honouring the memory of their late patriarch, “not minding the fact that Oyo State Government had earlier given our father and national icon a befitting burial.”

The family also commended the dedication of the esteemed Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Idris Mohammed; Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu; and the Oyo State Director of the National Orientation Agency, Dr Olukemi Afolayan, for their steadfast support for the deceased’s family.

“In the same vein, while we are appealing to the government for the prompt immortalisation of late Pa Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi, as moved in the upper chamber of the National Assembly by the Senator representing Oyo South senatorial district, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, and backed up by Senator Abdulfatah Buhari (Oyo North) and Senator Yunus Akintunde (Oyo Central), as well as the Minister of Information and National Orientation during his condolence visit to the deceased’s family,”

“It would be our greater joy as a family if the children of the deceased were fixed into government employment, as this will spur patriotism in many Nigerians and teach younger generations the importance of being committed to their fatherland.”

“Once again, we express our heartfelt appreciation for this timely and thoughtful support extended to us. It truly reflects the government’s commitment to honouring the legacy of our late father, who is an icon, and ensuring the well-being of his family.”
