- Gov Sanwo-olu tasks Ayuba on professionalism
The Federal government of Nigeria says it looks forward to working closely with the Nigerian Institute of Management, NIM, (Chartered) in the months and years to come to promote public administration and management of resources.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, disclosed this at the Investiture of the 25th President/Chairman of the Council, of NIM, Commodore Abinbola Olaribide Ayuba (retired) in Lagos.
The SGF who was represented by his Technical Advisor, Prof. Bernard Babatunde, charged NIM to come up with human capital development programmes tailored to improve the service delivery and productivity of Nigeria’s workforce especially in the various ministries, departments and agencies.
Akume affirmed that the Federal Government would be more than willing to partner with the Institute in this direction as he challenged the Institute to improve its visibility at public sessions of the National Assembly especially when Bills are being considered to make more robust professional management input that would be most relevant in the public domain.
“I urge the Institute to extend such hand of fellowship to all levels of government, especially the Federal Government. I am convinced that government will appreciate the involvement of the Institute in the key function areas of governance where the services of professional bodies are needed”
Akume urged the Institute to sustain its current efforts in ensuring professionalism and good ethical conduct among its members and Nigerians and trust that they would avail Tinibu’s administration of their professional services whenever they are called upon.
“I urge other professional bodies, corporate bodies and well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the kind gesture of NIM by lending their support to this administration instead of sitting by to criticise every attempt at governance. It is by synergising with the government that we can all build the Nigeria of our dreams” he added.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, charged Ayuba to strengthen the Institute’s influence, expand its reach, and equip managers with the necessary tools to navigate the complexities of the modern business and public sector environments.
The governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, described Ayuba as a man with many parts and urged him to ensure that the Institute remains a beacon of professional excellence.
“Your tenure will undoubtedly bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that will enrich this Institute and, by extension, our nation’s workforce. I urge you all to give him your best,” he implored.
Delivering his inaugural speech, Ayuba reiterated his commitment to upholding the values and principles of the institute, promote excellence in management practice, and fostering a culture of professionalism for the development of Nigeria.
“We shall stay resolute in our resolve to ensure that we remain ‘the Source and Symbol of Management Excellence. We will engage with all stakeholders, including government, industry, academia, legislature, judiciary and military to promote our interests and to contribute to the overall development of our dear nation”
He extolled the values of professionalism in management practice in Nigeria, as the institute dedicates itself to promoting excellence in management, provide training, development, and certification programs that equip its members with the skill sets and knowledge base required to excel in their respective careers.
“We will also promote research, innovation, and best practices in management, and provide a platform for our members to share their experiences, knowledge, and expertise,” he assured.
In a valedictory speech, the Ayuba’s predecessor, Dr. (Mrs.) Christiana V. N. Atako, who gave an account of her stewardship told dignitaries that her administration achieved significantly the goals it set out to achieve.
Ranging from Re-engineering the Institute, Revitalizing the NIM brand and Restoring the glory of the Institute. Atako said, “Our agenda bordered on institutional strengthening, boosting the financial base of the Institute, aggressive corporate and individual membership drive and reactivation, enhanced grassroots empowerment and engagement, advocacy and management excellence, product and market development and diversification, resuscitating global partnerships and footprints, and asset optimization.
“I sincerely hope that the incoming administration will build and consolidate on what we have been able to do in the last two years while upholding the values of professionalism, integrity and leadership that we passionately championed, preached and practised.
“For my successor, my prayer is for the Almighty God to give him divine wisdom and grace to continue the good work of taking the Institute to where we all want it to be,” she prayed.
