A United States of America-based Social Media Influencer, Mr. Semi Eriyo has initiated steps to take Dr. Kassy Chukwu, an Edo man, to court over comments made in a video he allegedly produced and widely circulated across various social media platforms in December 2024.
The video with some unprintable and unprofessional expressions allegedly contains false accusations, and threats which Mr. Semi Eriyo said were aimed at damaging his reputation and putting his life at risk, prompting him to demand an immediate retraction and formal apology.
To avoid impending litigation, Mr. Eriyo, through his lawyer, gave Dr. Kassy who is popularly known as Pastor Kassy, 48 hours to retract the statements made in the video and issue a public apology to him and his family.
This demand was outlined in a letter from Mr. Eriyo’s lawyer, Bumiye Amadi Damshakal, Esq. of Dyeitabum Attorneys, dated January 6, 2025.
The letter begins:
“We write upon the brief and firm instructions of MR. SEMI ERIYO we shall subsequently refer to as Our Client.
“It is Our Clients brief that he woke up to calls and messages from family and friends and business associates drawing his attention to a video publication which you made on the 26″ of December, 2024 on a social media platforms and particularly on youtube wherein you made serious and grave statements/false allegations with the aim of bringing his personality to disrepute and also issued threats to his life,” it stated.
Continuing, the letter stated that Mr. Eriyo had reviewed the video and found the content to be threatening, insulting, and damaging to his personal and professional image, which he had worked hard to build.
The lawyer goes on to outline the actions Mr. Eriyo will take if Dr. Kassy fails to comply with the demands within the 48-hour window:
“It is upon this backdrop that we write to demand for an immediate retraction of the said video publication, an outright and immediate apology to be published on all social media platforms (including but not limited to Facebook, instagram and Youtube) and also published on 3 national dailies within 48 hours of your receipt of this letter or you will leave us with no other option than to take legal action.
“Kindly Note that you made unfounded assertions, falsehood and issued threats in the said publication which is capable of putting the life of our client and his family members in danger and such actions have Civil and Criminal connotations with grave consequences”, the letter concluded.
