Man Dead In Benin Nightclub Shooting

A shooting at a nightclub in Benin City, Edo State of Nigeria has left one man dead, and his girlfriend hospitalized. 

The incident occurred early Friday morning at a popular club located on Stadium Road, off Ekehuan Road in the state capital around 2:16 a.m.

It was learnt that the yet-to-be identified deceased had a heated argument with another patron at the club, which escalated when he allegedly poured his drink on the man. 

Our correspondent scooped further gathered that though the deceased later apologized, tensions were still high, with the situation taking a tragic turn when, moments later, gunmen ambushed him as he got into his white Lexus SUV to leave the club. 

The gunmen opened fire, killing him inside his vehicle. His girlfriend, who was with him, was shot in the legs and is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.

The Spokesman, Edo State Police Command SP Moses Joel Yamu said the police were alerted to the incident around 3 a.m. and quickly responded as the ensuing chase forced the suspects to abandon a pump-action gun and two expended cartridges.

SP Moses also stated that the body of the deceased has been taken to a morgue, and that an investigation was underway as police work to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killing.
