Father Murders 4-Year-Old Son In Edo

A 35-year-old man, Theophilus Osazuwa, is in police custody after allegedly killing his 4-year-old son on Christmas Eve in Benin City, Edo State of Nigeria. 

The tragic incident occurred about 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, in Ogbeson Quarters, off Benin-Agbor Road, in the state capital.

According to police reports, Osazuwa, who is known to have a history of substance abuse, had gone out to consume illicit drugs earlier in the day as when he returned home, he went into a violent rage, screaming “Holy Ghost fire” before grabbing his son, Testimony Osazuwa, slamming him against a wall.

The child was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival. 

Police spokesperson in Edo, SP Moses Joel Yamu confirmed the arrest, stating that initial investigations suggested that the suspect was under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the young man who is known for the consumption of illicit (colos, ice etc) substances and acted under the influence of same,” SP Moses Yamu said in a statement released on Christmas Day.

This horrifying incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating effects of drug abuse and the need for increased awareness and intervention.
