Renowned Boston-based Nigerian-American Entrepreneur, academic giant, a devoted father and husband, Dr Osazee John Owens begins his final journey home from this world on Friday November 22, 2024, as Nigerians in Boston mourn his passing.
Dr. Osazee John Owens, succumbed to the will of God on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, in Boston, Massachusetts. He is survived by his wife, Isuan Owens and three children, Omonosagiagbon (Omonosa), Osasenaga and Esosasehia Owens.
Dr. Owens’s passing sent shock waves across the Nigerian community in Boston of which he had not only been an integral part, but a great benefactor, having positively touched many people’s lives.
As a community activist and leader, many are still reeling from the excruciating pains, trying to come to terms with his exit from the community he loved so much and to which he was a beloved brother.
According to a statement released by his son, Omonosagieagbon John Owens, the wake will take place on Friday November 22, 2024, at Venue 727, located on 340 Warren Avenue, Brockton MA from 7:pm to 12:am Eastern time.
The funeral service takes place on Saturday the 23rd at Charles Street A.M.E. Church, 551 Warren Street Roxbury, MA at 10:am Eastern time, immediately followed by interment at the Blue Hills Cemetery, 700 West Street Braintree, MA.
Immediately following interment, will be the repast at the Pontian Society Panagia Soumela, 120 Bay State Drive Braintree, MA.
Born into the prominent Owens and Ogiefa families of the Great Benin Kingdom, Edo State of Nigeria on January 25, 1962, Dr. Osazee J. Owens was the Founder and President of a very successful business Enterprise known as Osa Services Inc in Boston Massachusetts, USA.
Dr. Owens had over 30 years of experience in the accounting and business fields. He obtained his Higher National Diploma (now the equivalence of Bachelor’s Degree) in Accounting from Auchi Polytechnic in Nigeria; Master’s in Information Technology from Lesley University (1997 – 1998), and Doctoral Degree in Business Administration (DBA) from the University of Phoenix between 2008 and 2014.
Dr. Owens was also a Part-Time Professor at colleges in the Boston Area, namely Roxbury Community College and Quincy College.
Osa Services Inc. (Osa) started as a sole proprietorship in 1993, initially providing tax services to individuals in the Dorchester and Roxbury neighborhoods of Boston, Massachusetts.
With his vision, tenacity of purpose and drive which led to expansion, Osa Services had to relocate from the popular Mattapan Square area of Boston to another popular and busy area part of the city in January 1997, the Ashmont Station neighborhood, where it’s currently located.
With over 1,000 clients across the world over the years, Osa has diversified into accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, and business consulting services.
Osazee married the love of his life, Isuan Eboreime on January 10th, 1998, in Benin City Edo State of Nigeria.
Osazee & Isuan have three children: Omonosagiagbon (Omonosa) Owens, Osasenaga Owens, Esosasehia (Esosa) Owens
An alumnus of Edo College & Auchi Polytechnic, Osazee knew the importance and value of education and did everything he could to have his children to attend the best schools in Boston throughout their educative and formative years – all three of his children attended Boston College and have excelled academically and professionally.
Osazee was a huge Boston Sports Fan – he loved the Patriots and Celtics especially – he attended the most recent championship parade in June 2024.
He also loved his Nigerian Super Eagles
Osazee was a soccer coach in the Randolph, MA Youth Soccer League. He had the opportunity to coach all three of his children at some point during their involvement in the league.
Osazee loved to exercise – he loved to jog and walk.
As a lover of music, Osazee’s favorite musicians include, Victor Uwaifo, Osayomere Joseph, Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Teddy Pendergrass, TD Jakes, Michael Jackson, Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, Bebe & Cece Winans, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, George Benson
With the propensity to always entertain guests, Osazee’s favorite holiday was Christmas – every year, along with Isuan and his kids, would decorate the house and host an annual Christmas Party with an assortment of foods and drinks.
Osazee joined Charles Street A.M.E. Church on May 28, 2000, and was heavily involved as a member.
