#OndoDecides2024: APC Leads In 15 Local Government Areas So Far Announced As Collation Resumes At Noon

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released results from 13 LGAs on Saturday and added two more on Sunday morning, following a brief recess. With 15 out of 18 LGAs reported, the APC maintains its lead.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a significant advantage in the Ondo State governorship election, based on results from 15 local government areas (LGAs) announced at the state collation centre.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released results from 13 LGAs on Saturday and added two more on Sunday morning, following a brief recess. With 15 out of 18 LGAs reported, the APC maintains its lead.

The APC has pulled ahead in the election, maintaining a strong lead across all 15 announced local government areas, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) trails behind in second place.

State Returning Officer, Professor Olayemi Durotimi Akinwunmi of the Federal University Lokoja, announced a recess until 12 p.m. to declare the results of the remaining three local government areas.

The temporary recess was necessary to await the arrival of results from the remaining LGAs, which are located farther away from Akure, the state capital. The break will ensure all votes are accounted for before declaring the final winner.

“We will adjourn until 12 noon to give time for the results to arrive,” Akinwunmi said.

The 15 LGAs declared so far are Ifedore, Ondo East, Ileoluji Oke-Igbo, Idanre, Irele, Akoko South West, Owo, Ondo West, Akoko South East, Akoko North West, Ose, Akoko North East, Akure South, Akure North, and Okitipupa. The remaining three LGAs yet to be collated are Ilaje, Odigbo, and Ese Odo.

Controversy has erupted in Idanre Local Government Area (LGA) over the election results.

The PDP’s agent has raised serious concerns, alleging widespread irregularities, including vote buying and ballot box snatching.

Furthermore, the agent claims that voting didn’t take place in some areas of Idanre. Citing these grievances, the agent has formally requested that the results from Idanre be nullified.

The other remaining local governments are Ilaje and Ese Odo.
