Hundreds of books from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Iva Valley bookshop have been emptied by security operatives following a raid by security agencies on the Labour House on Wednesday evening, SaharaReporters can report.
A stark contrast can be seen in the before and after images of the bookshop obtained by SaharaReporters on Thursday.
Prior to the raid, the shelves were fully stocked with books, as evident in a photograph taken earlier.
However, a subsequent image obtained by SaharaReporters on Thursday evening revealed a starkly empty bookshop, “with not a single book in sight.”
The raid has left the bookshelves bare, raising concerns about the motivations behind the security agencies’ actions.
SaharaReporters reported on Wednesday evening, that a large contingent of armed security personnel, stormed the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) headquarters, known as Labour House, in Abuja.
The agents forcibly entered and ransacked several floors, confiscating books and files, which they claimed were used to orchestrate the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests.
Sources in the NLC office shared pictures of before and after the raid of bookshelves of the Iva Valley bookshop, located inside the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) building in Abuja,
“They took all books; no one remained.
“The Iva Valley bookshop, located inside the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) building in Abuja, was raided by team of security agencies. They confiscated all the books, leaving none behind,” the source lamented.
The incident occurred hours after the NLC’s National Executive Council (NEC) issued a statement denouncing the government’s “ill-conceived policies” that had led to the current economic crisis.
The NEC called for policy reforms prioritizing citizens’ welfare, job creation, and equitable resource distribution.
In a communique signed by President Comrade Joe Ajaero and General Secretary Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja, the NEC directed workers nationwide to continue taking protective measures as they peacefully demand change.
The statement had emphasised the importance of maintaining non-violent protests amidst the growing unrest.
