Obasanjo To Nigerian Leaders: Prioritise, Focus On Food Security, ‘Stomach Infrastructure’

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has emphasised the importance of prioritising food security, particularly the concept of “stomach infrastructure.”

He made the remarks at the unveiling of 136 housing units acquired by the Sokoto state government for N1.820 billion.

The housing units are intended for low-income earners and other citizens in need of shelter.

Obasanjo praised Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for his efforts in addressing various issues such as food security, transportation, road construction, agriculture, and housing projects.

He commended the governor’s dedication, comparing it to the strength and resilience of a stallion horse.

“Your strong, energetic, and resilient qualities in leadership have made you get it all within the space of time of your one year.

“Putting all these in place will surely brighten your chances of seeking a second-term mandate without stress”, he expressed optimism.

The former president applauded Senator Aliyu Wamakko and Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar for their spirited call contributions to the development of the state as a good political mentor and the Sultan as a role model in the caliphate.

He stated: “I will say Wamakko remains a good mentor who has gotten a good mentee in the person of the governor.”

Earlier, Governor Aliyu Sokoto said the idea of coming up with numerous housing projects was in tune with his campaign promises to deliver human-oriented projects that would prove the welfare and standards of the people in the state.

He explained that the state government had committed enormous resources to building and completing many other similar projects across the state including road constructions, empowerment items, water and agricultural inputs for farmers as well as equipping hospitals.

He stated: “We are determined to continue developing the state for proper repositioning and providing state-of-the-art adjourning facilities at all sites including Islamiyya schools, markets, and playgrounds among others.”
