The Cap’n of the National Association of Seadogs (NAS), (aka Pyrates Confraternity), Benbow Deck, Dr Chris Ekiyor has faulted the economic policies of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu led federal government, saying it cow the weak to submit to the leadership of the country.
In a chat with newsmen in Benin City on the nation’s 25years of unbroken democracy Dr Ekiyor said that as laudable as the policies may seem, they do not reflect the common interest of the people.
According to him, there are lots of policies that appear to be able to transform the nation which Nigerians can see and conclude that the federal government means business, but the top-down approach is self serving and a call for the hopeless to remain hopeless.
While noting that the present administration inherited lots of challenges, he disclosed that with the present government top-down approach policies, Nigerians are already at the breaking point.
For 25 years of Nigeria’s democracy, he said there is no significant improvement in the living condition of the common people in the society.
He lamented that those in position of authority use the power of incumbency, non-state actors, financial muscle and strong structures around them to facilitate the election of unpopular candidates into position of governance.
Dr Ekiyor therefore urged the federal government to review some of its policy directions and take certain collective steps that could enhance the welfare of the average Nigerian
He however said that “there is hope, but the hope should not be for those who already have hope; it needs to percolate to the real people seeking for hope.”
