A notorious Landgrabber in Benin City is among the suspects arrested by the Edo Police in connection with the crisis between Amagba Community in Oredo and Obagie N’Evbosa Community in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Areas of Edo State, Nigeria.
Two vigilante members were reportedly gunned down in Obagie N’Evbosa and property worth millions of Naira destroyed in Amagba during the communal attack and counterattack, last week.
The spokesman, Edo State police Command SP Chidi Nwabuzor stated that those in police custody comprised locals of both communities.
He said the command had begun discreet investigation to unravel the remote and immediate causes of the fracas.
Though reports indicated that the embattled parts of the warring communities have been deserted, the police spokesman said the areas are now safe.
SP Nwabuzor, however, declined to comment on the identities of those in police custody noting that further information to the public would jeopardize ongoing investigation.
“Don’t forget that the criminals also monitor news like the law-abiding residents of the state. They want to know what we are doing and how we are going about it so that they too can also strategise. I cannot disclose to you everything about our investigation”, the police spokesman maintained.
Checks at the State Police Command Headquarters on Wednesday revealed that a notorious land-grabber terrorizing one of the communities, three of his aides are among the suspects currently in police detention.
They were said to have been picked in the wake of the disturbances.
