Suspected Cultists Fighting Over Non-payment Of Dues In Police Net

Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of five suspected cultists who allegedly engaged in street fighting in Benin City, the Edo State capital during the week.

The command gave the names of those arrested as Emeka Eke, Chizoba Okolie, Samson Ochonobor, Friday Agbebayo, and Julius Eguasa.

According to the police, the five suspects were alleged to be members of Eiye Confraternity who engaged themselves in street fighting at Ramat Park for failing to pay membership monthly dues as well as attending meetings.

The command’s Imagemaker, Chidi Nwanbuzor, who confirmed the incident said the suspects were arrested by the operatives of the anti-kidnapping and cybercrime unit of the command during its patrol.

Nwabuzor said the suspects are helping the police in their investigations adding that they will soon be charged in Court.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports have it that for two weeks and counting, more than seven persons have lost their lives in renewed fierce cult-related killings in the state.

The battle for supremacy between two rival cult groups, Eiye and Aiye, according to sources is said to have resumed when a man suspected to be a member of Eiye Confraternity was hacked to death around the Ekiadolor axis near the city center leading to a swift revenge and widespread killings to other parts of the state.

Textile mills Road area, particularly Evbareke Chrismary Street, Siloko, and Ekiadolor areas are the worst hit by miles in the resumed clash between the rival cult groups.
