Edo 2024: Parallel Primary Election Unhealthy For Democracy, LP Chieftain, Okundaye Warns

…Says Akpata has come to change the old order

Labour Party (LP) Chieftain in Edo State, Dr Kingsley Okundaye has described  the purported parallel primary election of the Lamidi Apapa faction of the party as unnecessary, saying that such practice  which has become very common among Nigerian politicians is unhealthy for democracy.

Okundaye emphasized that the unity of the party is paramount.

The Party Chieftain  who congratulated the former President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Akpata for emerging the party’s candidate in the Edo State Governorship election also said that Akpata’s coming change the narrative of the party which has always been the desire of the ‘Obidient’ Movement.

In a chat with newsmen in Benin City, Dr Okundaye said that competence and capacity stands Akpata out as the candidate to win the September 2024 governorship election.

According to him,  the party has in the last few years concerned itself with deepening democracy by emphasizing competency and capacity over rotation and other considerations

“Akpata has come to realize that the election is about people and the people must drive the process and the process will go a long way to re-establish  LP’s commitment to democracy.

“Akpata has come to change the old order; Akpata will be a game changer in the election; he has built enough trust among the people by identifying with the dreams and aspirations of the people.”

Dr Okundaye disclosed that the ‘Obidient’ Movement would continue to be a force in ensuring that LP wins elections in the state

He said that the Labour Party Patriotic Members Congress (LPPMC) has commenced the process of exploring all avenues to address the internal wranglings in the party.

He described LPPMC as a congregation of stakeholders of LP, including elected party men and women in government, at the state and national levels as well as members of the Obidient Support Group from across the 36 of the federation and Abuja who are committed to strengthening LP’s stronghold and enlarging its support base.

Congratulating Akpata, LP in the state and national levels, Okundaye also appreciated the leadership  of LP at the state and national levels for conducting a free and fair primary election.

He advised the party members  to be united in working for the victory of LP in the Edo governorship election.
