BREAKING: Senator Okpebholo Declared Winner Of Fresh Edo APC Governorship Primaries

The APC had replaced the Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as the chairman of the Edo State Primary Election Committee.

Senator Monday Okpebholo has been declared the winner of the Edo State All Progressives Congress governorship primary election.

Okpebholo defeated 11 other aspirants to win the re-run election.

The APC had replaced the Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as the chairman of the Edo State Primary Election Committee.

A circular issued by Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, the party’s National Organising Secretary on Wednesday which was obtained by SaharaReporters, named Senator Bassey Otu as the new chairman.

The party earlier declared its primary election which was held on Saturday in Edo State inconclusive.

Three candidates emerged after the first election, leading to confusion.

A member of the House Representatives, Dennis Idahosa and Senator Okpebholo were two of those declared as candidates after Saturday’s election.

One of the top contenders, Senator Oserheimen Osunbor and other stakeholders had called for the cancellation of the election.

Kayode Fayemi, former governor of Ekiti State had accused a former APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole of attempting to impose a governorship candidate on other aspirants during Saturday’s primary election.

The allegation was stated in a statement by the Head of the Fayemi Media Office, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, on Thursday, accusing Oshiomhole of being the cause of the controversies surrounding the party’s activities in Edo State lately.

The statement read in part: “Earlier, Oshiomhole had attempted to eliminate some aspirants from contesting the primaries but failed. This is reminiscent of his high-handedness as national chairman when he manipulatively schemed Governor Godwin Obaseki out of the electoral process. That action led to the unfortunate loss of Edo state by the APC.

“It would appear the ground was being prepared by Oshiomhole yet again for the APC to lose the coming election in Edo state because of his unconscionable behaviour.”
