BREAKING: Cote d’Ivoire Beats Nigeria To Win 3rd Africa Cup Of Nations Title

Cote d’Ivoire’s Elephants beat Nigeria on Sunday in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to win the country’s third title.

Cote d’Ivoire clinched the trophy after coming from behind to defeat the Super Eagles.

The last time Nigeria won the cup was in 2013 while Cote d’Ivoire won AFCON titles in 1992 and 2015.

Nigeria was looking for its fourth title after victories in 1980 in Lagos, 1994 in Tunis, and 2013 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Nigeria scored the first goal of the match in the 38th minute through its centre-back William Troost-Ekong but Cote d’Ivoire equalised in the 62nd minute through Franck Kessie. Both goals are headers.

Cote d’Ivoire’s pressure paid off in the 81st minute when Sebastian Haller scored with a clever click following a beautiful cross from Simon Adingra.
