Nigerians have reacted to the huge amount of money used by the Federal Government to subsidise electricity, advising the government to remove the subsidy in exchange for prepaid meters.
These reactions to follows remark made by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu during his visit to the Electricity Distribution company Head Office in Ibadan where he mentioned that the Federal Government spent close to 700 billion naira to subsidize electricity in 2023.
Nigerians who engaged the report on Tribune online social media platforms expressed their displeasure at the huge amount of money spent on electricity.
A Facebook user @Paul Olowasaiye commented “With the heavy load Nigerian are carrying for power. Please remove it and give prepaid meters to everyone. Who is deceiving who in Nigeria.”
“The essence of privatization is defeated, where is the light? spending this amount of money as subsidy is a scam, because 70% of Nigerians are not enjoying 15 days 24hrs light, these moneys needs to be investigated”, @Saidu Salisu reacted.
Another Facebook user, @Adewunmi Isaac Opeyemi commented, “Spent 700bn on electricity yet NEPA office is using generator 🙄🙄🙄.”
@Basiru Uba in agreement with the removal of the electricity subsidy reacted, “Remove it we don’t die.”
