A group known as The Voice of The Common Man has warned that the glaring corruption in Nigeria judicial system might lead to crisis if concerted efforts are not taken to stop it.
The group has also expressed strong belief in the unity of the country and, therefore, urged federal government not to destroy the future of Nigerian youths.
The Voice of The Common Man, which had a peaceful demonstration in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, said it believes in one Nigeria, where citizens should have equal rights.
Members of the group lamented that with the state of Nigeria judicial system especially in the current political dispensation, the future of the youths are bleak.
They noted indiscriminate detention of innocent Nigerians and appealed to the judiciary to give citizens hope by delivering uncompromised judgements.
The group, which membership was drawn from the geo-political zones in the country, cited the controversial tribunal and Court of Appeal judgements in Kano, Plateau and Zamfara States, said the verdicts were capable of causing anarchy in the country.
Some of the youths, Kabiru Libda, Abbe Saleh and Hillary Johnbull, who spoke during the protest, said without a peaceful environment, economy will not thrive.
Johnbull said: “People you are seeing here are from the grassroots. You are seeing Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo and people from other tribes here.
“We are not here to talk about or against anybody. But, the fact remains that the youths you are seeing here are the leaders of tomorrow. The question is, what are they learning from the present leadership?
“Recently, we were talking about Police reform. We moved further to INEC. Now, it is the judiciary, which forms part of government. The recent judgements delivered in this country are worrisome. In fact, why must they install someone before going to court? There should be a total reform in our judicial system. People are no longer confident going to court or tribunal. We want this country to move forward.”
