Presiding Justice of the Presidential Election Petition Court, Justice Haruna Tsammani, was among 11 justices recommended to President Bola Tinubu for appointment as Justice of the Supreme.
Their appointment however would have to get the approval of the presidential upon confirmation by the Senate of the National Assembly.
Other justices on the list recommended by the National Judicial Council (NJC) in order of seniority are;Justice Jummai Sankey, Justice Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa, Justice Chioma Egondu Nwosu-Iheme, Justice Moore Aseimo A. Adumein, Justice Obande Festus Ogbuinya and Justice Stephen Jonah Adah.
Others include; Justice Habeeb Adewale O. Abiru, Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur, Justice Abubakar Sadiq Umar and Justice Mohammed Baba Idris.
Their appointment is coming after three years after the last appointment and it will no doubt ease the burden on justices of the apex court as appeals in the 2023 governorship elections continue to mount.
A statement by the NJC’s Director, Information, Mr Soji Oye, noted that, “All recommended candidates to the Supreme Court Bench would be sworn-in after the approval of their recommendation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the subsequent confirmation of their appointment by the Senate”.
