Operatives of Edo State Police Command have evacuated a dismembered body of yet-to-be-identified middle-aged man in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
The body with two feet, wrists cut off and placed beside it, was discovered dumped in a bushy side of Uwelu road by a patrol station on Monday, November 20, 2023.
The discovery of the gory sight sent shockwaves down the spine of residents in the area who swiftly contacted Textile mill road police division in charge of the area.
The Public Relations Officer for Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor said the police division was contacted about 9am that day.
“Details about him were that he was brought by unknown persons and dropped there. Investigators also observed that there was no blood stain in the scene.
“Photographs of the scene were taken and the body evacuated to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital mortuary”, SP Nwabuzor said.
Checks by our correspondent in that neighborhood revealed that the victim is unknown to residents of the area.
No one has been able to ascertained whether dismemberment of the body was done alive or after the killing.
However, SP Chidi Nwabuzor has assured that the perpetrators of the gruesome murder would be fished out soon.
Further checks suggest that the killing may not be unconnected to ritual or cultism.
Meanwhile, residents of the area have appealed to police and other security outfits in Edo State to beef up security in and around Uwelu community to forestall reoccurrence.
We decided not to use the picture of the dismembered body because it is just too gory.
