Pro-Biafra Group Condemns Blackout In Imo, Indicts Ajaero

Power outage beyond us, says EEDC
Biafra Provisional Government has condemned the blackout in Imo State resulting from the clash between the organized labour and operatives of state police command.

The total blackout was imposed on the state capital and beyond by Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) following an attack on NLC President, Joe Ajaero, by some security personnel in the state.

The pro-Biafra group also accused Ajaero of using the power crisis to gain cheap popularity and cause disaffection between the state government and the people.

President of Biafra Provisional Government, Dr. Chile Nwoko, who spoke to newsmen in Owerri, yesterday, expressed shock at the hardship the decisions of the labour unions were bringing on the hapless people of the state.

He, however, prayed for Ajaero’s quick recovery from the injuries he sustained.

MEANWHILE, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), which  supplies power to Imo State, has explained that the prolonged power outage, which has affected the whole of Imo, is beyond its control, while empathising with its customers in the state.

This was made known in a statement issued by the Head of Corporate Communications, EEDC, Emeka Ezeh, yesterday.

Ezeh described the situation, which has lasted for nine days, as unfortunate and explained that with EEDC’s source of power at Egbu Transmission Station shut down by the labour unions, there was no way the company could get power to distribute to its customers in Imo.

He said: “We can only distribute the power that we receive from Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) stations, and in this case, the station catering for our customers in Imo has been shut down by the labour unions.”
