Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC), has begun the various Processes of tracking 82 zonal intervention projects in Edo State.
The zonal intervention projects valued at 36, 289,341,305.81 cut across all sectors including agriculture, education, health, housing, works, power, science and technology, water, empowerment/capacity building, and others.
According to a statement released recently and made available to the press by ICPC, the outcome of the advocacy tracking event which commenced on October 16, 2923, is expected to develop a framework that will help create transparency of information.
ICPC expects that can be used by the Commission to provide useful benchmarks and points of reference, which offers clear metrics that can be used not only to track existing projects but also to determine the potential contributions of future projects.
This, according to the statement, will put major players to task in carrying out the delivery of projects using the funds judiciously available to them for the execution of such projects and reveal what precedent to another.
Findings reveal that constituency project implementation in Nigeria has contributed meaningfully towards the improvement in the quality of life of average Nigerians in some sections of the country.
However, the success stories recorded could have been holistic if project implementation had been devoid of corruption, embezzlement, inflation of contract awards, use of substandard materials, and diversion of funds.
Therefore, there is a need for collaboration between the legislature and the people residing in each constituency to synergize their efforts toward achieving inclusive development.
