BY ANDY EGBON

Edo state is a leader in the diaspora community, attracting over $2.5billion Foreign Direct Investment into the country, according to the Managing Director of Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO), Mr. Kelvin Uwaibi.

At an interactive session with journalists at the Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, Uwaibi said that the state government has created the enabling environment to make Edo State the preferred investment location in Nigeria.

This, he said, was achieved through ESIPO’s collaboration with other sister agencies and ministries in the state.

He said that the state government has initiated economic policies and programs to grow Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in the state.

According to him, the major challenge the nation is passing through is not inflation, but rather poor productivity which does not enhance export and hence attract FOREX into the country.

The Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Festus Alenkhe in his remarks assured that the union would continue to support agencies and organizations committed to reducing poverty in the society.

He urged the state government to continue to pursue the course of attracting local and foreign investors into Edo.
