Professor Darlington Obaseki, the Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital is urging Professionals and other members of the society to ensure they adopt a regular exercise lifestyle to promote physical fitness.
He noted that various researches have shown that exercise can help keep the body fit, thereby reducing the risk of life-threatening diseases.
Obaseki made the call on Monday while addressing Newsmen during a walk for life Sensitization to mark the event heralding the 50th anniversary of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) at the popular Uselu market in Benin City.
Professor Obaseki ascribed the reason for the health walk to a part of efforts to keep professionals fit and prepared for the tasks ahead.
He said the need to engage in a different form of exercise as part of their daily routine has been re-emphasized owing to its importance to their well-being as individuals.
Also speaking Professor Yakubu Vincent Adam, Consultant Public Health Physician, disclosed that the walk of life is the peak of the activities to mark UBTH at 50, adding that the essence of the exercise helps to keep the body fit and in check.
Others who took part in the Walk for Life sensitization spoke about their experiences in participating in the exercise.
The event to climax the 50th anniversary of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital holds on May 12, 2023.
