Edo IRS Steps Up Digitization Process, Introduces Self-Service Portal For Vehicle Owners.

By Eben Enasco

Edo State Internal Revenue Service EIRS, says it has stepped up efforts at digitizing its revenue process by introducing a self-service portal in the State.

The move according to the State Internal Revenue Service, is to enable vehicle owners to conduct a self-renew process on expired vehicle documents from the comfort of their homes.

A statement signed by the Chairman, Taskforce on IGR, Hon. John Osagie Inegbedion FCA, FCTI, and made available to our correspondent by Head, of Corporate Communications, Courage Eboigbe, disclosed that the move is a step to sustain the gains recorded in the EIRS automation process and render service delivery to motorists as well as the people in Edo State within the motor vehicle administration space.

The statement further noted that the introduction is part of efforts toward ensuring that motorists who are customers continue to enjoy quality service delivery, enhance the ease of doing business, save time, and protect them from being victims of fraud.

Hon. Inegbedion revealed that Revenue Service has made arrangements to carry out a joint motor vehicle documentation and compliance exercise to ensure motorists obey the extant road traffic laws.

During the exercise, security, and traffic agencies of government are expected to be on the road to ensure motor vehicle licenses, driver’s licenses, number plates, roadworthiness certificates, and hackney carriages are valid.

The Revenue Chief is, however,  urging the public, particularly motorists with expired vehicle documents to take advantage of the self-portal service to avoid all forms of charges by the accredited agents.
