Members-elect of Edo State House of Assembly have been urged to see their elections as an opportunity to serve the people they represent.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon Marcus Onobun who was recently elected to represent Esan West at the green Chambers of the National Assembly, gave the charge during a courtesy call to the Anthony Enahoro Complex in Benin City, the Edo State Capital, by the newly elected members of the 8th Assembly in the state.
While reminding them that the people deliberately voted them to represent and carry out genuine legislative business, the speaker appealed to the new members-elect to avoid introducing into the House political affiliations, which may pose a danger and cause division during plenary.
He said as lawmakers, representatives of the people and the Country, they are expected to live by example.
Henry Okuarobo, the Majority Leader and representing Ikpoba Okha Constituency, as well as his Counterparts representing Esan Sout East, Sunday Ojiezele who is staging a return after his re-election, agreed that the House is a place where serious business of legislation is conducted.
He urged the new members to uphold the spirit of ones, describing the hallow chambers as theirs to keep.
Some members, including Aiguobarueghian Charity – Ovia North East 1, Edeko Maria – Esan North East II, and DR. Edosa Osaro, member elect Oredo West who addressed the outgoing 7th Members of the State House of Assembly assured of filling the seats to be vacated sometime in June 2023.
They commended the speaker for organizing such a high-level interaction section that will build their confidence when they resume the legislative tasks.
