The race to Delta State Government House in Asaba has taken a new twist as the Obidient movement has denounced any pact with the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the March 11 governorship election, Ovie Omo-Agege.
Some followers of Obidient Movement in Delta State had pledged to support Omo-Agege, saying that he possesses the character of their principal and presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi.
But addressing reporters on Tuesday in Asaba, chairman of Special Duty Committee of Labour Party, Dr Emeka Mandela, said it was unthinkable for true Obidient family members to seek friendly alliance with APC in any part of the country.
Dr Mandela, a former presidential aspirant on the platform of National Rescue Movement (NRM), was flanked by the South-East coordinator of Peter Obi for Good Governance (POGG) and member of LP presidential campaign council, Nmaduabuchi Chekwubechukwu; Mr. Ikenna Azomchine of EU Frontliners for Peter Obi; and Mr. Kingsley Odum, convener of Like Minds for New Nigeria.
Mandela said the Obidient movement has been very disturbed with the report on the alliance with APC in Delta, noting that such report was false.
He said this Saturday’s election would serve as demonstration of anger against the APC across the federation including Delta State.
“Let it be on record that the APC has plunged Nigeria into darkness, they have brought sorrow upon the land. And the youths of Nigeria are still mourning, we are sad.
“We are using this Saturday’s election as an expression of the demonstration we should have been on the streets by now.
“We decided to sheathe our swords of the demonstration you would have be seeing around the nation to take that demonstration to the polls on Saturday against APC. We are taking the demonstration to the polls round Nigeria, Delta State inclusive.
“The Obidient family will be having demonstration against APC at the polls on Saturday, we are going to come out en-masse and give a protest vote against APC.
“Delta State Obidient family members, this struggle for a new Nigeria will never die. The common enemy we have is APC, and we will stop at nothing to get them all out of power so that Nigeria and Nigerians can breathe fresh air,” he said.
