Edo State, Nigeria, is the political Strong base of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a state presently governed by Governor Godwin Obaseki who is the Party leader in the state.
However, the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is recording significant gains as he has won nine out of the 18 local government areas so far presented on Sunday to cap off the number of election results received.
As the collation of votes in the state continues, Obi has won in Egor, Igueben, Esan Central, Esan North East, ESAN South East, Esan West, Orhionmwon, Uhunmwonde, Owan East, and Ovia South West LGAs.
In Owan East, the collation of results was, however, stepped down over disparities noticed in figures by the Presidential Electoral Returning Officer, Professor Nyandoh Ndaeyo, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, as presented by the LGA returning officer of the LGA.
While the collation of results was yet to commence, the commissioner of police on Election duty, Benjamin Okolo appealed to stakeholders to continue to cooperate with Security operatives to have a hitch-free election.
His remarks had followed an earlier plea by the State returning officer on Presidential Election, Professor Nyandoh Ndaeyo who called for strict compliance with the electoral laws.
In the summary of results collated, Returning officers across the Ten LGAs so far released said the election was peacefully conducted, but not without pockets of mishap in some polling Units.
As collation resumes on Monday, more results are expected in the other eight LGAs including Oredo, Ikpoba Okha, Ovia North East, Etsako West, Etsako East, Akoko Edo one and Two, and Owan East.
