Labour Party Calls For Indefinite Extension Of Date For Collection Of PVC In Nigeria

…Demands end to fuel scarcity

…Supports peaceful protest

Benin City, Nigeria – Edo State Media & Publicity Committee of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council (LPPCC) has called for the indefinite extension of date for the collection of Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC) in Nigeria.

The call was contained in a press release signed by Comrade Igbotako Nowinta and Jude Adoghe, Chairman and Secretary respective of the state Media Campaign Council and made available to journalists in Benin City on Monday January 30th, 2023.

In the press statement, the Campaign which supported the peaceful protest in Benin City, equally kicked against fuel scarcity and condemned vehemently the skyrocketing prices of petroleum products in the country.

Below is full text of the press release:

“The 2023 general elections has become a most crucial agenda for the masses of Nigeria, and it is disheartening to know that most eligible voters, have not been able to collect their PVCs due to carefully orchestrated and calculated human error, masterminded by some desperate and retrogressive paid party agents cum unscrupulous enemies of the state.

“It is our firm conviction that we have the fundamental obligation to take ourselves from the dungeon of frustrations, such that have been playing out, even with the staggered dates for the collection of PVC so far.

“Therefore, the Chairman of  Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC), Prof. Mahmud Yusuf should without delay, and in the name of national interest, declare indefinite, the date for the collection of PVCs within and across the country, till say 20th of February, 2023, so that the process will elastically accommodate all eligible voters.

“INEC must listen to the voice of the people as February 5th, 2023 will still not be okay for most Nigerians to collect their PVCs.

“Our lives depends on the coming Presidential elections in Nigeria; we are ready to rescue and reclaim Nigeria or we die!

On continuous fuel scarcity in Nigeria

“It has become humiliatingly unbearable for some weeks now, that the people of Nigeria cannot buy petroleum products easily, even at cut throat prices, up to N500 – N600 per litre; in a country that sits on the bottomless pit of crude oil.

“In taking Nigerian economy to the brink of disaster, the rulling All Progressives Congress ( APC) under President Muhammadu Buhari has failed woefully to address the prevailing fuel scarcity, along with the attendant skyrocketing prices nationwide.

“This catastrophic image of the presidency is continuously soared in the minds of our people; the fuel scarcity has become outrageous, inappropriate and not in line with sensitive societal logic; we demand an urgent end to fuel scarcity and crazy prices of petroleum products in Nigeria.

“Because the ugly development of today is unthinkable, regrettable and wicked, coming from a sitting federal government, that has blatantly distanced itself from progressive leadership, we call on Nigerian voters to queue behind Peter Obi on February 25th, 2023.

“Today, we stand shoulder to shoulder with great Nigerian people, who are protesting the daily increment of price of fuel.

“We must move out of the terrible shadow of the present government!
