NPC To Conduct First Digital Census

The National Population Commission (NPC) says it has engaged scores of trainers from Edo, Delta and Bayelsa states to train personnel that’ll conduct the first fully Digital Census in Nigeria.

The Federal Commissioner, Delta State, Chief Richard Odibo, who disclosed this at a two-day Training of Trainers (TOT), Zonal Level Workshop for the 2023 Population and Housing Census, in Asaba at the weekend, said being the first digital census to be conducted in the country, the commission deem it necessary to employ the workforce that would be adequately equipped with the skills needed to avoid any hiccups during the period.

Speaking through the State Director, Mr. Patrick Lotobi, Odibo said, “To achieve a credible census, a compressive training strategy was very much necessary for the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

He hinted that the Commission is desirous to properly train the facilitators who will in turn train the supervisors and the enumerators at the states and local councils.

“The present Commission is committed to training and re-training members of staff with the belief that this will help the Commission in the effective delivery of its mandate.

“This workshop has been put together to enhance the technical and managerial capacity and skills of the participants to teach other field functionaries for the success of the 2023 Census exercise,” he said.

He revealed that the Commission’s focus is to ensure that the 2023 Census does not disappoint Nigeria, and other nations, hence “we have to assess the extent to which objectives are being met or not.”
