Edo PUWOV Moves Against One-way Drivers

…Asks motorists to report offenders

Officials of the Edo State Public Works Volunteers (PUWOV) have begun a campaign against motorists driving against the traffic (one-way), in a bid to restore sanity on roads in the Benin metropolis.

This is as operatives of the scheme, at the weekend, apprehended another commercial bus driver for violating the state’s traffic laws, making two persons who have been apprehended since the kickoff of the campaign. 

The Edo PUWOV Coordinator, Mukhtar Yusuf-Osagie, while briefing journalists, said the commercial bus driver, Blessed Palmer, was apprehended after he was captured on video driving against traffic.

He noted, “Officials of PUWOV have apprehended a commercial bus driver with vehicle registration number USL-522-ZB, in the Benin metropolis for driving against traffic. He has been arraigned before a mobile court and will face prosecution in accordance with the state’s extant laws.”

Yusuf-Osagie said, “Motorists should know that driving against traffic is a threat to the lives of other road users. The driver is currently facing prosecution in accordance with the state’s extant laws, while the vehicle has been impounded.”

“We are encouraging other road users and motorists to report drivers who ply one-way on our roads. Members of the public can record motorists disregarding traffic regulations on our road and send videos of the recording to the WhatsApp Number: 08132030846.”

He added, “When we get video recordings of such disregard of the state traffic rules, we will ensure we apprehend the drivers to face prosecution. We will continue to make efforts to ensure the free flow of traffic on our roads.”
