Dumped Male Corpses: Police Launch Manhunt For Suspects

Benin City, Nigeria – Edo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of 10 male bodies at Ibillo Community in Akoko-Edo local government area of the state on Tuesday.

The Command has appealed to members of the public with information that would unravel the cause of death and possibly lead to the arrest of suspects in the case.

The corpses were discovered along a bush path by Ibillo-Lampese Road, Lagos–Abuja Expressway about 11am, today November 1, 2022.

Also, the command has released the following numbers through which the information can be conveyed to the police.

The numbers are: 08051010829, 08036695572, 08034702270 and 08033726625.

Meanwhile, the new commissioner of police in Edo State, CP Mohammed Dankwara has enjoined the good people of the state not to panic due to discovered bodies.

The 10 unidentified corpses recovered in Ibillo, Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo State on November 1, 2022.

CP Dankwara assured that necessary security arrangements have been put in place.

This was stated in a statement issued by the command Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor and made available to Journalists in the state via the police command official WhatsApp page.

“This is to inform the general public that through a credible intelligence the Operatives of Ibillo Divisional Headquarters of Edo State Police Command  in collaboration with the Vigilantes group and the Hunters today, Tuesday, 1st of November, 2022 at about 1100hrs, discovered ten male dead bodies along a bush path by Ibillo- Lampese Road, Lagos- Abuja Expressway.

“The Divisional Police Officer Ibillo Division, Ibillo, Edo State revealed that while he was in his office he received the information that some dead bodies were sighted at the aforementioned location and immediately he mobilized his Operatives, Vigilantes group and the Hunters to the scene where they met the ten male dead bodies between the ages of twenty- three to twenty-five years.

“That during the preliminary investigation, photographs of the dead bodies were taken,  the bodies were duly searched and examined but there was no noticeable mark of violence or materials that may lead to identifying the dead bodies. Investigation was also extended to the Fulani/Hausa Communities and the indigenous Communities who came, examined corpses and declared that the dead bodies were not natives of their Vigilantes.

“The dead bodies have since been deposited at the Ibillo General Hospital Mortuary for preservation and forensic investigation”, SP Nwabuzor explained.
