IGP Restates Commitment To Police Welfare, Commissions Facilities In Edo

Benin City, Nigeria – Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba has commissioned a modern police station and quarters in Edo State.

IGP Usman Alkali unveiled the facilities on Saturday, October 29, 2022.

The new police station with strategically installed security gadgets is located at Ekiadolor town along the

Benin-Lagos highway.

The rank-and-file quarters is situated at Adesuwa police barracks in Benin City.

The facilities are said to be among the over 198 projects including more than 120 modern police stations, barracks and other vital police buildings built by the police under the watch of IGP Usman Alkali Baba, across the country.

Addressing police personnel, other security operatives, traditional leaders, and members of host community at the gathering, IGP Usman Alkali said the new station was to bring police closer to residents and travelers around the area.

He said police proximity to residents enables prompt response to their security needs.

IGP Usman Alkali enjoined the locals to always partner with the police as community policing is relevant in tackling modern security challenges.

The police chief expressed hope that members of the public would ensure the protection of the police station which is built to cater for their security needs.

IGP Usman Alkali Baba however reiterated his commitment to fight crimes and criminality through improved morale-boosting welfare packages and anti-crime psychology of officers.

He maintained that modern policing facilities and equipment were aimed at improving the professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Inspector-General of Police commended governments and people of the state for partnering with the police.

Among the IGP entourage were AIG Zone 5, Lawan Jemita Tanko, the former commissioner of police in Edo, now AIG, Abutu Yaro, and his successor CP Mohammed Dankwara.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, on Saturday, commissioned a 1.6km road and other facilities at the Police Training School at Ogida Barracks, in Benin City.

Some of the facilities include a 450-capacity college auditorium, three large halls and a multipurpose block, among others.

The team also inspected a female dormitories A and B; male dormitories A, B and C; blocks of classrooms; multipurpose blocks A, B and C; two blocks of ten bathrooms and eight toilets; bore hole with an overhead tank and a school clinic.

Other facilities inspected include a Command-and-Control Center behind the John Odigie-Oyegun Training Academy, GRA, Benin and the accommodation for the special squad deployed to the State to complement the government’s efforts at fighting land grabbers.

Also inspected are a six block of three-bedroom flats in the Adesua axis of the state built for officers of the Nigerian Police Force in Edo State.
