Renowned US-based Nephrologist, Dr. Osahon Ukponmwan has donated ten Hemodialysis chairs to Edo National Association Worldwide (ENAW), with a pledge of $10,000 in support of the organization’s quest to establish a functioning dialysis unit and sustain its medical mission.
Out of the pledge of $10.000, he redeemed $5,000 with a check for the organization on the spot.
Dr. Upkonmwan made the donations, while speaking as Chairman of the 29th ENAW convention, hosted by Edo Cultural Association of Las Vegas, led by Dr. Lantis Osemwengie on Saturday September 24, 2022.
The convention with the theme: Promoting Edo Cultural Heritage Through Education, which took place at the Tuscany Suites and Casino Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States of America from Friday September 23 to Sunday the 25th, 2022 was attended by Edo indigens from around the world.
The keynote speaker at the event was UK-based Medical Doctor, Mrs. Loretta Oduware Ogboro-Okor.
This year’s event was unique because it marked the first time in the history of the organization that a female, Engr. (Mrs.) Bose Ogeifun-Oviasu would assume the mantle of leadership as President, succeeding Mr. Edison Oyiboke-Osifo who successfully served two terms in office.
In his speech which centered around compassion, devotion and integrity, Dr. Ukponmwan commended the leadership of the organization, given its dedication to the service of humanity, exemplified by medical missions, recreational projects, and other humanitarian endeavors.
His words: “Over the past several years the ENAW has demonstrated unequivocally her commitment to the development and wellbeing of Edo State.
“This is inclusive of social engagement, recreational facilities and Medical missions. The ENAW on a regular basis is in conversation with the Edo State Government in areas of mutual interest to the benefit of the people of Edo state.”
He recalled the very challenges of the past couple of years engendered globally by the ravages of COVID-19 pandemic and gave thanks and glory to God for making the ENAW gathering possible this year.
“We also remember all those that fell victims of the pandemic. Along this line I also recognize the exemplary leadership of President Edison Oyiboke and his team for holding the ship of the association steadfast”
“It is indeed an honor to have been asked to chair this very respectable gathering of Edo nationals in the Americas.
“My wife and I are truly appreciative of this invitation.”
He noted with satisfaction, the organization’s continued devotion to the people of Edo State irrespective of the administration in charge.
Ukponmwan said the ability to work across board irrespective of the administrative challenges is a true testament to that and the caliber of officials that pilot the ship of the organization both in the past and present.
He harped on the virtue of integrity, saying: “When there is integrity so much can be accomplished. The reverse is also true wherever integrity is lacking. When the leadership is transparent, then the members become more engaging and creative. This ultimately leads to growth and development
“The ENAW has met these three key areas and so my wife and I have no reservation in working with the President and executive to realize it’s goals and objectives.”
Upkonmwan thanked the outgoing President, Mr. Edison Oyiboke-Osifo for his exemplary leadership and tenacity, and congratulated the incoming first female President of ENAW, Engr. (Mrs.) Bose Ogbeifun-Oviasu.
“I can assure you that the ENAW is in very good and steady hands,” he noted.
The University of Benin and Harvard University-trained Nigerian-American physician emphasized that the donation of ten Hemodialysis chairs was in support of the incoming administration’s quest to establish a functioning dialysis unit.
He added that at the appropriate time he would also donate two Hemodialysis machines to the ENAW.
